An Evaluation of Primary Care in Medicare Accountable Care Organizations
On November 20, 2024, the Primary Care Collaborative released its 2024 Evidence Report, Primary Care: The MVP of MSSP. The report explored the performance of primary care centric ACOs under the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP).
The report found that, over a six-year period, primary care centric ACOs generated on average 2.4 times the savings of their peers. However, the report also found that the share of primary care centric ACOs in the MSSP was declining — suggesting that a major bright spot for the program may dwindle if efforts aren’t made to support the existence of primary care centric ACOs.
